1. Be in Problem Recognition Mode – Set a goal to be an Invention Inventor (write it down and post it)

Take time to slow down and recognize problems you encounter throughout your day.  These are hot spots for inventions and ideas for new products.  Most of us just push on through a problem verses stopping to recognize that it is a problem or more likely that there is a better way to do “X.” For example, in my shower is a bar of soap that between uses seems to become a soggy block.  I picked that soggy bar up for years. Then one day I said to myself “that’s a Problem.”  Once you identify a problem your mind consciously and subconsciously starts to solve the Problem.

“But instinct is something which transcends knowledge.”  “Most persons are so absorbed in the contemplation of the outside world that they are wholly oblivious to what is passing on within themselves.” “As I review the events of my past life I realize how subtle are the influences that shape our destinies.”- Nikola Tesla

2. Keep Notes – Start with a Plan as an Invention Inventor

Keep notes of inspiration, ideas, and thoughts either in a Composition Book or on the Notes App of your smart phone.

“All creative people want to do the unexpected.” – Hedy Lamarr

3. Document your Ideas and Inventions

See Document your Invention.  How to Document your Invention is a FREE form to download and document your invention with easy to follow instructions and invention forms and samples. Sections include Title, List of Parts (mark photos or drawings to identify parts by name); List of Advantages; Description of drawings, figures, photos, hand drawings; Summary of how parts are assembled; Summary of how invention is used. Drawings, figures, photos should at least show i) a whole view invention, ii) a disassembled view of parts of invention, and iii) the invention being used.

“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” – Benjamin Franklin

4. Perform Product Research

See Perform Product Research. Educate yourself about competing products or services.  Look for competing products in stores, online, trade shows, and trade magazines.  Know their parts or elements and compare them to your parts list.  To be patentable you need a new part or element not found in the competing products. How to perform Product Research is a FREE form to download with easy to follow instructions and invention forms and samples to privately research competing products related to your invention. Included are instructions, forms, and two samples for your review, and information on how to objectively evaluate the commercial viability of your Invention.

“Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom.”  – George Washington Carver

5. Protect your Invention

See Cover Sheet Provisional Patent. G&W will schedule a FREE phone call with you to discuss the steps to get your invention patented and get it to patent pending.  They will review and comment on your Document your Invention forms you prepared. “If we worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true really is true, then there would be little hope for advance.”- Orville and Wilbur Wright

“Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world.” – Louis Pasteur
